Artificial Intelligence Tool Created to Measure Social Distance With Camera

In the fight against the new coronavirus, maintaining social distance is a very effective measure to slow the spread of the disease. Although millions of people are staying at home honestly to help reduce transmission, many employees in the manufacturing and pharmaceutical industries still have to work every day to ensure that basic living needs are met.

To help ensure that these people maintain social distance in the workplace, Wu Enda ’s team at Landing AI has just released an artificial intelligence social distance detection tool that can detect whether people are keeping a safe distance by analyzing real-time video streams from cameras. What can this tool achieve? For example, in a factory that produces protective equipment, technicians can integrate this software into their security camera system and monitor the working environment with simple calibration steps.

The detector can highlight people in red below the minimum acceptable distance and draw a line between the two to emphasize this point . The system can also issue an alarm to remind people to maintain a safe distance when they violate the agreement. There are three main steps to achieve this effect: calibration, detection and measurement. As medical experts pointed out, before the advent of the vaccine, maintaining social distance is the best tool for helping to reduce the prevalence of coronavirus, and it is also the best means of opening the economy. Landing stated that the purpose of creating this tool and sharing it at an early stage is to help their customers and encourage others to explore new ideas to ensure people's safety.
