Scientists Use Neural Network to Change Gait of Walking Robot With NeuroPod

According to foreign media New Atlas, insects will quickly switch between different gaits in response to external stimuli. Scientists have now created a small robot that can use the integrated artificial neural network to do the same thing -this technology may eventually be used for better performance artificial limbs. This 3D printed hexapod robot is called NeuroPod and was developed by Spanish researchers.

Its onboard microprocessor contains 30 artificial neurons. Currently, these neurons receive electrical stimulation from adjacent hard-wire computers in the form of various signals. In response to these signals, these neurons will instantly give instructions to the 18 servo motors that control the robot's legs. Therefore, as long as the signal is received, NeuroPod will smoothly and instantaneously switch between the gait of walking, trotting and running. The team said that this is not the case with other walking robots. They must pause while processing control commands before they can change gait-and when they change gait, the process is often awkward and awkward.
