With the continuous advancement of technology, smart phones are becoming more and more powerful, but they also bring some other problems, such as heat. But for mobile phone designers and engineers, it is necessary to take into account the space problem while solving the heating problem. A new research from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology has developed a brand-new heat-dissipating graphite film, which not only can perfectly solve the problem of mobile phone heating, but also takes up very limited space. It is reported that graphite film has excellent thermal conductivity, which provides the possibility for the thinner development of electronic products and is an ideal material for heat dissipation of electronic equipment. However, its production cost is relatively high, it needs to be processed at a high temperature of up to 3200°C, and the thickness of the finished product is also several microns. According to researchers at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, the method of using polymers as source materials to make these graphite films is very complicated and very energy intensive. Therefore, they developed a cheaper and effective heat dissipation graphite film. Scientists use nickel foil as a catalyst to convert hot methane gas into graphite. This process only needs to be completed at a temperature of 900°C, and the graphite film formed on the surface of the nickel foil is only 100 nanometers thick. Researchers call this new material nano-thick graphite films (NGFs), which are much thinner than the micron-thick graphite films currently used. In addition, the nano-thick graphite film also brings unprecedented flexibility and robustness, and the production cost is greatly reduced. It is worth mentioning that the nano-thick graphite film also has electrical conductivity, so it can also be used for solar cell components or sensors for detecting nitrogen dioxide gas.
