Time Bomb" Star Apep Staged a Space "Alien"
According to foreign media reports, our sun is a relatively predictable star. We know that it has cycles, we roughly know its age, and we think we know how long it will last in its current state and eventually "tan out" and destroy most of the solar system. But there are many different kinds of stars in the universe, and some stars are much stronger than the sun. A star named Apep is not only very rare, but the information currently available shows that it will not exist for long. This is a Wolf-Rayet star. To earn this title, the star must be both bright and hot and seem to be constantly at risk of collapse and explosion due to the amount of fuel exhausted. Obviously, the specific conditions of stars meeting these criteria are very rare, and only one in 100 million stars will receive such a label. Apep is such a star, but it is actually much rarer than it appears on the surface. This is because Apep is not a lone star but a double star, and they dance gracefully around each other's orbit. Binary stars produce spiral patterns when emitting matter orbiting each other, but Wolf-Rayet double stars produce more spectacular patterns in the sky.
As in this photo taken by the European Southern Observatory, Apep has formed a very beautiful iconic pattern in the sky. I wonder if everyone thinks the pattern looks a lot like the logo of the third movie of "Alien"? Although it is not a perfect match, it is much closer than it should be. Of course, its beauty obscures the fact that this star is essentially a bomb waiting to explode. In addition to exhibiting all common Wolf-Rayets extreme behaviors, Apep's main star appears to be spinning fast. This means that when it becomes a supernova, it may have all the ingredients to detonate a prolonged GRB. Perhaps at a distance of 8,000 light-years from the earth, this star may have exploded, but we have not seen it yet. If this is the case, you may soon see a spectacular light show.
